Contest builds blue-water yachts between 12 and 20 metres in the Netherlands using a semi-custom process, vacuum-infusion hulls, solid wood interiors, every yacht fitted out to the customer's wishes. These are yachts for circumnavigation, and the sums insured are often at the upper end of what the calculator underwrites.
With semi-custom yachts the valuation is individual: the fit-out makes the difference, not the hull length. A valuation report that records hull, rig, engine, electronics and fit-out separately is the basis of the agreed value. Anyone planning a circumnavigation should talk to us beforehand; the Worldwide cruising range applies without restriction, but salvage cover and the deductible are part of the reality of a passage in the South Pacific.

On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
