WinTech builds racing and touring rowing boats in China which are priced below the European manufacturers and are therefore widespread in clubs and schools, from the single to the four, in fibre composite. The lower price is the reason for their spread and at the same time the point that matters for insurance: the replacement value is lower than that of an Empacher or Filippi of the same size.
Set the sum insured according to the actual replacement value, not according to the price of a European boat. For club fleets with several boats a schedule with individual values is worthwhile; it makes handling a claim easier and prevents an inexpensive boat from being valued at the level of an expensive one or vice versa.
With boats from the Far East, the supply of spare parts is the practical point. Riggers, sliding seats and fittings come via the importer, and delivery times are longer than those a European manufacturer needs. This does not increase the premium, but it does extend the downtime, which for a club with a racing programme is an argument for keeping a stock of spare parts.
