Worth knowing
Whitby Boatworks; cover, cost and conditions
For around fourteen years, from 1969 to 1982, the sailing yacht Whitby 42 was built. The cruising range is agreed when cover is taken out and, alongside type of boat, sail area, value and year of construction, affects the premium. For harbours abroad there is the international certificate of insurance in ten languages.
The full hull cover works with an agreed value and pays with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. On a yacht from this build period this spares the discussion about the current value, because the decisive amount is already stated in the policy when cover is taken out.
Production ended in 1982, and every unit changes hands second-hand today. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners, and the legal expenses cover for water sports can be added for a dispute after the purchase or with a shipyard.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What proof do I need abroad?
You receive the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages. The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and determines where cover applies.
Is a yacht from 1975 still eligible for full hull cover?
Yes. In the Premium tariff the full hull cover applies with no age limit and pays at the agreed value with no deduction for depreciation (new for old). We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners.

Series by Whitby Boatworks, build years and cover
Whitby 42 is a sailing yacht from Whitby Boatworks, built from 1969 to 1982.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
