In the Netherlands, Van der Heijden builds steel displacement boats between 12 and 17 metres, spacious inland yachts with a flybridge or sedan superstructure, often in family ownership for decades. The boats are designed for comfort on inland waters, with a generous interior and a lot of on-board technology.
With yachts of this size on inland waters the main source of claims is manoeuvring: locks, bridges, berthing. A 16 metre steel yacht with a displacement of 30 tonnes causes considerable damage to the neighbouring boat even at walking pace, that is what third-party liability is there for, and the limit of indemnity should not be the smallest one. Damage to your own hull is covered by full hull cover, although steel shrugs off scrapes where GRP breaks.
