Valiant Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Valiant builds RIBs with a pronounced V-hull and high freeboard, boats intended for a seaway that are used in official and rescue services just as much as privately. For insurance, the design means: these boats are taken out in conditions in which others stay in harbour, and the damage pattern shifts accordingly from storm damage while berthed to load damage while under way.
The most frequent hull insurance case with hard-driven RIBs is not the hull but the attachments: console, seats, transom and tube fastening absorb the slamming load. Cracks at the transom reinforcement develop over the years and only become visible when water enters. Such damage is wear, not an insured event, but consequential damage to the engine through ingress of water is covered. Check the transom annually.
With engines from 200 hp upwards, the value of the engine is often higher than the value of the boat. List boat and engine with separate values and state the engine number. For trips outside coastal waters you need the corresponding cruising range level; up to two nautical miles from the coast is the practicable limit with RIBs, beyond that Croatia, Italy and Spain require proof of insurance in the national language.

Are cracks in the transom covered?
The crack itself is material wear and is not covered. Consequential damage to the engine through ingress of water is insured under full hull cover.
Do I need proof of insurance for abroad?
In Croatia, Italy and Spain yes. You receive the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages with the policy.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered, porous fabric after years in the sun is not. The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
