Worth knowing
Tung Hwa Yard; cover, cost and conditions
Four model ranges are recorded, the Fleming 50, 53 and 55 as motor yachts and the Chebec as a sailing yacht. Production ran from 1977 to 2015. Anyone taking over such a yacht today first clarifies the replacement value, which we record in the contract as an agreed value in full hull cover.
The Fleming 55 ran from 1992 to 2015, the 53 from 1987 to 2003 and the 50 from 1993 to 2003, while the Chebec was built between 1977 and 1984. Across this span the same applies, because we insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners, in the Premium tariff with no age limit.
Because both motor yachts and sailing yachts are in the programme, depending on the boat either the engine power or the sail area forms part of the premium, along with the type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range. If a dispute with the seller or the yard arises after the purchase, legal expenses cover for water sports is available.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is the replacement value recorded?
As an agreed value in full hull cover. The agreed amount is stated in the contract and is indemnified with no deduction for depreciation, in the Premium tariff with no age limit.
Does it make a difference where the yacht was bought?
No. Place of purchase, year of construction and previous owners have no influence on access to cover. What counts for the premium is the data of the boat and the cruising range.

What matters for motor yachts is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Series by Tung Hwa Yard, build years and cover
Fleming 55 is a motor yacht from Tung Hwa Yard, built from 1992 to 2015.
Fleming 50 is a motor yacht from Tung Hwa Yard, built from 1993 to 2003.
Fleming 53 is a motor yacht from Tung Hwa Yard, built from 1987 to 2003.
Chebec is a sailing yacht from Tung Hwa Yard, built from 1977 to 1984.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
