Worth knowing
Swede Hergla Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Four model ranges are recorded, among them three sailing yachts and, with the Flying Swede 38, a cabin catamaran, built between 1981 and 1989. For boats of this age the agreed value is the decisive point: it is agreed when the policy is concluded and applies in the event of a claim with no deduction for depreciation (new for old).
In the Premium tariff full hull cover manages without an age limit. Covered are collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard, with no time window and no night-time clause. Limited hull cover covers fire, storm, lightning strike, theft of the entire boat and damage in winter storage.
For sailing yachts the sail area rather than the engine output goes into the premium, together with the type of boat, value, year of build and cruising range. The brand stays out of it. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards, and you declare races with ranking status when you take out the policy.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What does an agreed value offer compared with a current market value rule?
The value agreed when the policy is concluded applies in the event of a claim. Compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), and in the Premium tariff also with no age limit in full hull cover.
How is a catamaran rated?
According to the type of boat, value, year of build, sail area and cruising range. The brand does not enter into the premium, and for acceptance the year of build, place of purchase and previous owners are irrelevant.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
