Worth knowing
Summit Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Five model ranges are documented, the sailing yachts 35, 40, 45 and md35 with years of construction from 2006 to 2020 as well as the motor yacht 54, which has been built since 2016 and to this day. Depending on the type of boat, either the sail area or the engine power counts for the premium.
Added to this are type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range; the brand stays out of it. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros you conclude the policy online, above that an individual assessment follows. Third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros forms the basis.
In full hull cover an agreed value is settled, compensation is paid with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards, and you report races with scoring status when taking out the policy. The cover also applies in winter storage and during craning.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How does the contract differ for a sailing yacht and a motor yacht?
Not in the scope of cover. For the premium, in one case the sail area counts and in the other the engine power, plus type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range in each case.
Can I take out the contract online?
Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros, yes. Above that we carry out an individual assessment. You receive the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages.

Series by Summit Yachts, build years and cover
Summit 54 is a motor yacht from Summit Yachts, built since 2016.
Summit 35 is a sailing yacht from Summit Yachts, built from 2009 to 2020.
Summit 40 is a sailing yacht from Summit Yachts, built from 2007 to 2020.
Summit 45 is a sailing yacht from Summit Yachts, built from 2010 to 2020.
Summit md35 is a sailing yacht from Summit Yachts, built from 2006 to 2020.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
