Worth knowing
SmartKat GmbH; cover, cost and conditions
Five catamaran ranges are recorded: the Performance from 2003 to 2021, the Adventure and the High Performance likewise up to 2021, the Race from 2012 to 2019 as well as the SmartKat 460, which has been built since 2018. Four ranges are entered as cabin catamarans, the Race as an open catamaran.
How a multihull is classified follows from the type of boat, value, year of construction, engine power or sail area and the cruising range. The brand remains of no significance for the premium. The basis of every contract is the third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros in the levels Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium.
If such a boat is moved on a trailer, the trailer is included in the boat insurance at no extra premium. During craning, during launching, on the way in transport and in winter storage the cover continues.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How is a discontinued range such as the Race treated?
Like any other boat. We insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners, in full hull cover with an agreed value and with no deduction for depreciation, in the Premium tariff with no age limit.
Does the trailer have to be insured separately?
No. The boat trailer is included in the boat insurance at no extra premium. On the way in transport as well as during launching and craning the cover for the boat continues.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
Open catamarans are beached and trailed, so most damage happens ashore and in transit, not on the water.
