Worth knowing
Silent Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Silent Yachts builds solar-electric catamarans, motor yachts with photovoltaics on the roof, large battery banks and electric propulsion. In insurance terms, two special cases meet here: catamaran and electric propulsion.
First the catamaran: two hulls, two drives, twice the number of components; insured by length, a yacht of this kind is underinsured. Second the energy system: battery bank, inverter and solar modules make up a considerable part of the value. In many other insurers' terms and conditions the battery counts as a consumable part; with us it belongs to the insured propulsion system. Have the system reflected in the agreed value and adjust the value after every extension.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Are the battery bank and solar modules covered?
Yes, they belong to the insured propulsion system and to the fixed equipment. What matters is reflecting their value in the agreed value; it makes up a considerable part of the yacht's value.

Series by Silent Yachts, with value and cover
Silent 55 / 62 is a cabin catamaran from Silent Yachts (Austria), built since 2016, and today changes hands at between €1,600,000 and €3,600,000.
Silent 55 Solar is a cabin catamaran from Silent Yachts (Austria), built since 2016, and today changes hands at between €1,900,000 and €3,800,000.
Silent 60 / 80 is a cabin catamaran from Silent Yachts (Austria), built since 2020, and today changes hands at between €2,400,000 and €6,500,000.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
