SIFLY; cover, cost and conditions
SIFLY builds e-foils in Germany with a carbon structure and a swappable battery, craft for the field in which a board with a hydrofoil flies above the water. Values are in the mid five-figure range for the carbon versions, which means hull insurance is no side issue at SIFLY: a broken foil or battery damage involves amounts comparable to those of a motorboat.
Foils are the critical item. The hydrofoil projects up to one metre below the board and is the first thing to strike in any mishap: the bottom, the jetty, floating debris, your own fall. Full hull cover covers this damage, while wear and delamination due to ageing are not covered. A replacement foil set costs a four-figure amount; check whether the deductible you have chosen fits that, otherwise you will bear the most frequent loss yourself.
For the battery the rules that apply to all electric watersports craft apply: charging according to the manufacturer's instructions, in the case supplied, under supervision. Under these conditions our hull insurance covers fire and thermal runaway including consequential damage. In operation, registration marking applies from 3 hp and a licence on inland waters from 15 hp, and with e-foils of this power class both affect practically every unit.
