Worth knowing
Selco Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Selco built Norwegian cabin boats which in Germany sail mostly on the Baltic. They are sturdily built and stand up to a sea, which makes the cruising range the central question: coastal waters, the Baltic and the North Sea are three different declarations with three different risks.
For boats of this age the question of value also applies. A well kept Scandinavian cabin boat is worth more than a current market value calculation produces. Agree an agreed value based on the replacement value, otherwise a surveyor will calculate it down in the event of a claim.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does the contract cover the Baltic?
If it is agreed as the cruising range. Check the policy document before the season.
What does the agreed value achieve?
In the event of a total loss the value agreed upon is paid, with no scaling of value by age.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for motorboats and sports boats is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Cruising range
The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended at any time.

Check wind force in Beaufort and wind direction before casting off, and allow for gusts.
General guidance, not a complete account; what governs are the rules of the waters you are on and your boat’s manual. Current wind force and direction for your waters are shown on the Home.
Series by Selco, with value and cover
Selco Favorit P17 / HT 18 is a motorboat from Selco (Norway), built from 1980 to 2005, and today changes hands at between €5,000 and €18,000.
Ancas Queen 24 is a motor yacht from Selco (Norway), built from 1985 to 2005, and today changes hands at between €15,000 and €48,000.
Selco Daycruiser 21 is a motorboat from Selco (Norway), built from 1985 to 2005, and today changes hands at between €9,000 and €30,000.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
