Worth knowing
Rustler Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Rustler builds blue water yachts between 11 and 13 metres in Falmouth in a classic line, long keelers and modern keel shapes, built by hand, with solid wood joinery. The Rustler 36 has become known as a boat of the Golden Globe Race: a yacht in which you sail around the world without assistance.
For yachts of this build, the Worldwide cruising range is the appropriate level, and on solo long-distance passages an agreement is part of it. Single-handed sailing over long distances is a different risk from sailing with a crew, time off watch, risk of collision, salvage. Discuss a solo passage with us beforehand. The second point: the yachts are built by hand, so determining the value requires a survey.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can single-handed sailing on a long-distance passage be insured?
With an agreement, yes. Single-handed sailing over long distances is a risk profile of its own, so discuss a solo passage with us beforehand.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
