Polar Bird; cover, cost and conditions

Polar Bird has eight model ranges, divided into the Eagle models PB 380 E to PB 450 E and the Merlin models PB 320 M to PB 385 M. These are inflatable boats, built since 2017 and since 2018 respectively and still today. For small boats too the rule applies: none should go on the water without third-party liability.

Third-party liability is the basis of every contract at NAMMERT and, depending on the tariff level, provides a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros. It bears damage to other boats, to jetties and to persons. Limited hull cover and full hull cover can be built on top of it, depending on the value of the boat.

Limited hull cover includes fire, storm, lightning strike, theft of the entire boat and damage in winter storage. Full hull cover adds collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard. The trailer is included in the boat insurance at no extra premium.

Frequent questions

Why does third-party liability come first in the contract?

It covers damage to third parties and, with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros, is the foundation. Limited hull cover and full hull cover are added depending on the value of the boat.

Can an inflatable boat also be covered by hull insurance?

Yes. Limited hull cover and full hull cover are available regardless of the type of boat. The premium depends on type of boat, value, year of construction, engine power and cruising range.

A powerboat licence (inland or coastal) is required from 15 hp (11.03 kW).

Registration

Registration from 3 hp; for trips abroad carry the boat certificate or flag document.

Waters

Inland, coastal and abroad; plan fairways, bridge clearances, draught and tides.

Equipment

Lifesaving gear, fire extinguisher, anchor, signalling equipment and correct navigation lights.

Cruising range

The agreed cruising range is stated in the policy and can be extended at any time.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repairs are predictable. Still, set the value at replacement cost, including sails, rigging or gear you bought later.

Even without an engine the rule holds: a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
