Worth knowing
Neptunus Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Neptunus has been building motor yachts in Aalst since 1960, the older models as canal and coastal yachts, the new ones as fast flybridge yachts with values well into six figures. In insurance terms, a whole world lies between a Neptunus 133 from 1985 and a Neptunus 62 of today: there, agreed value and preservation of the substance; here, limit of indemnity, the charter question and crew.
For the large models the question of use is decisive. Private letting of up to thirty days a year is included with us, with a written rental agreement. Anything beyond that is commercial use and requires commercial cover, including liability towards paying guests.
With the older displacement boats, electrolysis is the issue. A steel or aluminium hull on shore power needs working anodes and a sound isolation transformer. If both are missing, corrosion eats through the plating within one season, and that is wear and tear, not an insured loss.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
May I let my yacht occasionally?
Up to thirty days in the insurance year, yes, with a written rental agreement. Beyond that it is commercial use and has to be agreed.
Is corrosion damage to a steel hull covered?
No, gradual corrosion is wear and tear. What is covered are sudden events, for example a leak after a collision. Check the anodes and the isolation transformer every year.

For the whole class of boat
What matters for motor yachts is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Series by Neptunus, with value and cover
Neptunus 108 / 133 (classic) is a motor yacht from Neptunus (the Netherlands), built from 1975 to 1995, and today changes hands at between €25,000 and €85,000.
Neptunus 145 / 168 is a motor yacht from Neptunus (the Netherlands), built from 1985 to 2005, and today changes hands at between €65,000 and €220,000.
Neptunus 56 / 62 Flybridge is a motor yacht from Neptunus (the Netherlands), built since 2000, and today changes hands at between €420,000 and €1,600,000.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
