Worth knowing
MasterCraft; cover, cost and conditions
In Tennessee, MasterCraft builds water-ski and wakeboard boats with an inboard engine and direct drive; the ProStar has been the reference boat in water skiing for decades, and the X series covers wakesurfing with a ballast system and a shapeable wave. This use is distinctive in insurance terms: people in the water, directly behind the boat, with the engine running. Personal injury arising from it falls under boat third-party liability, and the limit of indemnity here should not be the smallest one.
The second point is the ballast system. Surf models take several hundred litres of water into tanks in the hull. Defective pumps, leaking lines and frost damage to tanks that have not been drained are known loss patterns. We cover frost damage where the boat has been properly winterised; leaving water standing in the ballast tanks is not that. Drain the system completely before the boat goes into the cold half of the year.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is wakesurfing behind the boat covered?
Yes, sporting use with water skis, wakeboard and surfboard is included. What matters is a sufficient limit of indemnity in third-party liability; people in the water are the greatest risk of this use.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
