Koopmans builds steel yachts of between 11 and 15 metres in Friesland, sailing yachts with classic lines, many of them delivered as a bare hull and fitted out by the owner. It is the Dutch tradition of owner fit-out on a professionally built hull, and it has a large and committed owner community.
For the insurance the owner fit-out is the interesting point: the hull comes from the yard and is documented, while the fit-out is the owner's own work without any invoice. For the agreed value a valuation report is needed that assesses hull and fit-out separately. Keep the material invoices and the photographs taken during the build. With a steel hull one more thing applies: have the plate thickness measured and look after the anodes, because corrosion is wear and is not covered.
