Gruno Marine; cover, cost and conditions
Gruno builds steel displacement boats in Groningen for canal and coastal cruising. Steel is rewarding in the event of damage: a dent can be straightened, a crack welded, and the density of workshops in the Netherlands and northern Germany is high. The downside is corrosion, and that is a matter of maintenance, not a matter for the insurance.
For boats permanently berthed in the Netherlands, the foreign country belongs in the cruising range. We underwrite berths in the European inland area without a surcharge, but the details have to be stated in the contract. Anyone who stays in Friesland over the winter should also check the winter storage cover: frost damage to cooling water systems is the most frequent claim between November and March.
At Gruno the interior fit-out accounts for a considerable part of the value. An agreed value based on the replacement value including fit-out and electronics is therefore more sensible than a roughly estimated hull value. After a refit the agreed value should be adjusted, and with us that can be done informally.

Frequent questions
Is frost damage in winter storage covered?
Yes, in limited hull cover and in full hull cover, provided the system was properly drained or filled with antifreeze. Neglected winterisation is a maintenance fault.
Does the contract apply with a permanent berth in the Netherlands?
Yes, if the berth is stated in the contract. A berth abroad in the European inland area costs no surcharge with us.

Licence

Gruno 28 / 30 Classic is a motor yacht from Gruno (the Netherlands), built from 1985 to 2010, and today changes hands at between €35,000 and €115,000.
Gruno 35 / 38 Excellent is a motor yacht from Gruno (the Netherlands), built from 1995 to 2020, and today changes hands at between €85,000 and €280,000.

For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
