In Eberbach, Empacher builds racing rowing boats that have been part of the standard at world championships and Olympic Games for decades, from singles to eights, hand-built, in wood and fibre composite, with values from a few thousand euros to over forty thousand euros for an eight. These values and the construction method make insuring a rowing boat a subject that many clubs underestimate.
A racing rowing boat is extremely light and correspondingly delicate. The most frequent damage does not occur on the water but while carrying the boat, in the boathouse and during transport on the trailer. Our hull insurance covers transport damage with suitable means of transport, damage in the boathouse and collisions on the water. Not covered are wear and damage from improper storage; a boat sagging on supports that are too far apart deforms, and that is a consequence of storage.
For clubs the following applies: a boat rowed by changing crews is not private use. Register the club operation with the number of boats and the type of use; we underwrite club fleets. We do not offer a separate boat third-party liability for muscle-powered craft; as a rule the club liability insurance or the rower's private liability insurance applies.
