Dragonfly Trimarane (Quorning Boats); cover, cost and conditions
Dragonfly builds folding trimarans at Quorning Boats in Skærbæk, and the folding system is exactly the point around which the insurance of these boats revolves. The Swing Wing mechanism allows the floats to be folded against the hull, so the boat fits into a normal berth or travels on a trailer. It is, however, a moving load-bearing structure under load: fittings, struts and bearings are wear parts whose condition directly determines the safety of the boat.
For the hull insurance this means two things. Wear on the folding mechanism itself is not covered, it needs maintenance, and the yard prescribes inspection intervals. What is covered is the consequential damage: if a strut gives way under load and damages the hull or a float, we pay. Keep the maintenance documented; in the event of damage to the load-bearing structure, the question about the last service is the first one asked.
Trailer use is the second focus. Dragonflys are moved by road more often than other multihulls, and transport damage does not occur on the water but during loading and in traffic. Our policy covers transport with suitable means of transport; the trailer itself is included at no extra premium if it is stated in the application. Secure the floats for the journey according to the yard's specifications, because a float lock that comes loose in the airstream is an expensive and avoidable loss.

Is the folding mechanism of my Dragonfly insured?
As a component yes, but not against wear. Consequential damage to the hull caused by failing mechanics is covered; maintaining the load-bearing structure remains your responsibility and should be documented.
Is the trailer included?
Yes, at no extra premium, if it is stated in the application. Road transport with suitable means of transport is included in the hull insurance.
