Doral built sports boats and sport cruisers in Quebec for the North American and European markets. The boats are solid, but the yard is no longer active, and that is the point owners underestimate: spare parts for windows, fittings and panelling are only available second hand. After a major loss, the repair can fail because of parts procurement, not because of money.
That is why the correct statement of value matters more with a Doral than elsewhere. Set the value so that an equivalent boat can be obtained for it on the market, not at the purchase price of the time. In the event of a total loss we pay the agreed value under full hull cover, in the Premium tariff with no deduction for depreciation, new for old.
On the drive side, sterndrive installations dominate. Bellows are wear parts with a replacement interval of a few years; a torn bellows lets water run into the engine compartment, and the consequential damage to the engine is then a maintenance question, not a claims question. Yes. What counts for the cover is the condition of the boat, not the continued existence of the yard. During a repair, parts procurement can take longer, but that changes nothing about the cover.
What happens if no spare part can be obtained any more?
Then settlement is based on the replacement value. If a professional repair is not possible, the case counts as a total loss and is compensated at the agreed value.
