Worth knowing
Jachtwerf De Groot; cover, cost and conditions
De Groot builds Dutch steel cruisers in small numbers. Such boats are maintained, converted and upgraded over decades, and that is precisely why the sum insured from the year of purchase no longer fits at some point. Review the agreed value every few years, and after every major refit in any case.
For inland waters in Germany and the Netherlands we underwrite without a surcharge, but the waters have to be stated in the policy. Anyone who crosses the Ijsselmeer or enters the Wadden Sea leaves purely inland waters behind, where tides and swell apply and therefore a different risk.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
How often should I review the sum insured?
Every three to five years and after every refit. With us the adjustment is possible informally.
Is the Ijsselmeer included in inland waters?
Not automatically. Check the cruising range in your policy document, an extension is possible at any time.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for motor yachts is the same across every brand; engine output, how a claim is settled, cruising range and theft protection. The class page lists every point and every brand in this class.

Series by De Groot, with value and cover
De Groot Kruiser 900 / 1050 is a motor yacht from De Groot (the Netherlands), built from 1975 to 2000, and today changes hands at between €22,000 and €75,000.
De Groot 1200 / 1400 is a motor yacht from De Groot (the Netherlands), built from 1985 to 2010, and today changes hands at between €55,000 and €180,000.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
