Cranchi; cover, cost and conditions
Cranchi has been building boats since 1870 in Italy on Lake Como and today on the Adriatic, motor yachts between 9 and 25 metres. The yard produces hulls by vacuum infusion, which makes the laminate more even and lighter than hand lay-up. For the insurance this is a quality argument, not a premium factor; what determines the premium is value, length, power, year of build and cruising range.
Cranchi yachts lie predominantly in the Mediterranean, and there the autumn storm season is the relevant risk. Storm from wind force 8 is covered under limited hull cover, including damage caused by neighbouring boats that have broken loose. What is not covered is inadequate mooring: a boat that lies at the pontoon in October on summer lines has a problem of precaution. Check lines, snubbers and fenders before the storm season.
