Worth knowing
BSI Marine; cover, cost and conditions
BSI Marine is recorded with seven models, all of them sailing yachts in the larger size class. The Farr 50 measures 15.5 m, the Farr 525 DS just under 16 m, the Farr 56 around 17.6 m and the Farr 585 nearly 18 m. Above them stand the Farr 60 at 18.4 m, the Farr 63 at 19.4 m and the Farr 645 at 19.4 m. Recorded production runs from 1988 to 2012.
BSI Marine yachts are all over 15 m, which shifts the focus of cover considerably. Cruising area, berth and the question of crew on board or employed shape the policy, because vessels of this size rarely stay in their home waters. Rig and sails belong separately in the declared value, as do electronics and deck hardware. For the early build years from 1988, an agreed value is the clearer route, since many of these yachts have been refitted since.
NAMMERT insures BSI Marine regardless of year of build and place of purchase, including yachts taken over abroad. For vessels of this size we assess value, use and cruising area individually; smaller units can be quoted in the online tool in about five minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What details does a policy for a Farr 63 require?
Value, year of build, cruising area, berth and whether crew is employed. On yachts over 19 m these points shape the cover more than length alone.
Are rig and sails included?
They belong in the declared value. On yachts of this size, rig damage accounts for a significant share of total value, so it should be covered expressly.

Farr 60 is a sailing yacht from BSI Marine, built from 1997 to 2005.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
