Aluminium yachts are robust and valued for long passages, but they make their own demands. Galvanic corrosion is the typical ageing process and counts as wear, not as a claim; damage caused by an event is covered. Regularly checked sacrificial anodes and sound wiring at the berth preserve the value and are therefore also relevant to insurance.

Is corrosion on an aluminium yacht covered?
No, it counts as wear and develops over a longer period. What is covered are sudden events. Regularly checked anodes and inspection of the shore power installation are the most effective protection.
Can I sail a Breehorn to high latitudes?
Yes, but the cruising area must be extended accordingly beforehand. Report the passage in good time and we will review route, season, equipment and crew and adjust the cover.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part. Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
