Worth knowing
Bootsbau Rügen GmbH; cover, cost and conditions
Bootsbau Rügen is listed with 15 models, all sailing yachts. The Vilm range runs from the Vilm I and II through the 101, 112, 115, 116, 117 S and 34 to the Vilm 37 and 41, the latter in CR and DS versions. Build years run since 1966, lengths from 10.1 to 12.5 m.
Vilm yachts are classic cruisers for the Baltic and the North Sea, many built in small series and fitted out to customer specification. For insurance that means two things: value depends on the individual fit out, which makes an agreed fixed value sensible. And because these boats really do make long passages, the cruising area should reach as far as your planned destinations, not just your home water.
NAMMERT insures Vilm yachts regardless of build year. On deck saloon versions the larger glazed area should be reflected in the sum insured, because after storm or hail it is the expensive item. You can calculate the premium for liability and hull cover in the online calculator in about 5 minutes.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What does DS mean on the Vilm 41?
DS stands for deck saloon, a raised saloon with all round glazing. The larger glass areas are more expensive after storm and hail damage, so the version should appear in the details.
Is my cruising area enough for a passage to Norway?
Only if it is agreed accordingly. Report the passage beforehand and the area will be extended. A loss outside the agreed area is not covered, not even on the way back.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
