Bombard belongs to the Zodiac group and builds robust inflatable boats in the tradition of expedition craft; Explorer and Commando are designed for hard use and are often found as the tender of larger yachts or in diving and rescue service. As the tender of a yacht, a Bombard is covered under our hull insurance free of charge up to a certain value limit, provided it is stated in the application; beyond that as a separate item.
Anyone who uses a Bombard on its own usually has an engine on it and therefore has to deal with the registration requirement from 3 hp and the licence requirement from 15 hp. Third-party liability is the central part here: inflatable boats travel close to the coast and in the Wadden Sea, where swimmers, kitesurfers and commercial shipping come together. Ten to fifty million euros of limit of indemnity cost little and cover the case in which everything else looks small.
For hull insurance the same applies to Bombard as to all inflatable boats: the tube is covered against damage from outside, not against ageing. On a boat in diving service, abrasion from equipment and cylinders is added; lay in protective mats, that is cheaper than any repair. In winter storage the boat belongs stored dry and without pressure, not tightly inflated in the hall.
