Worth knowing
Bicker; cover, cost and conditions
Every contract begins with third-party liability. It covers damage suffered by others and can be selected with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros in the Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium tiers. Limited hull cover, full hull cover and legal expenses cover are built on top of it.
Bicker has 19 model ranges, from the Biga 24, whose construction began in 1967, to models such as the Biga 242, 270, 292 and 330, which are still being built today. Sailing boats and sailing yachts stand side by side, and older ranges such as the Biga 30 ended in 2005. For the sailing yachts, the sail area rather than an engine output counts in the calculation.
From Basis-Plus upwards, club races are included. Races with official scoring status are declared when you take out the policy. Full hull cover works with an agreed value and pays with no deduction for depreciation, and it covers collision, grounding, vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Are club races covered as well?
From the Basis-Plus tier upwards, club races are included. Races with official scoring status are declared when you take out the policy so that they are correctly recorded in the contract.
Does anything change between a Biga 24 and a Biga 330?
Not for acceptance. The premium is based on the type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range, so that older and current model ranges are rated differently but under the same rules.
The cover that fits
For the whole class of boat
What matters for your boat depends less on the brand than on engine output, how a claim is settled and the waters you sail.

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
