Bali Catamarans; cover, cost and conditions
Bali Catamarans belong to the Catana group and differ from other production catamarans in one structural feature that is relevant for insurance: the continuous solid foredeck instead of a trampoline and the large garage door at the stern. Both create living space, but they increase the closed surface and with it the area exposed to storms ashore. In winter storage a Bali needs to be shored up with particular care and the stern door secured, storm damage ashore is the most frequent hull insurance claim with these hulls.
The range is young, the hulls are correspondingly well documented, and spare parts run through the yard's own distribution. That keeps repair costs predictable. What drives the premium is not the construction but the size: from 13 metres of hull length and two engines the sum insured rises considerably, and with it the hull insurance. The agreed value is mandatory here, not optional, because with a vessel of this class a value scale based on age means a five-figure difference in a total loss.
Bali owners sail mainly in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. For the Mediterranean the cruising range level North Sea and Baltic plus Mediterranean is sufficient, for the Caribbean we need the worldwide extension including the hurricane clause. Anyone who lets their boat run in a charter fleet has to declare it: commercial use is a different risk from private use and is not included in the private policy.

Why is winter storage an issue with a Bali?
The closed foredeck area catches the wind. Ashore the boat needs to be shored up properly and the stern door locked, storm damage in storage is the most frequent claim with this type of construction.
May I charter out my Bali from time to time?

As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part, and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
