Azimut Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Azimut, based in Avigliana near Turin, builds motor yachts from twelve to over forty metres and, together with Benetti, forms part of the Azimut|Benetti Group. In Germany, Azimut yachts lie mainly on the Baltic and in the Mediterranean, many of them with a permanent berth in Croatia, Italy or Mallorca. At values of this order, the decisive figure is not the premium but the salvage costs.
Salvage, lifting and wreck disposal quickly reach six figures on a yacht of this class, and the authorities order them regardless of what your policy says about it. A cap at 50,000 euros makes the premium look attractive and the invoice afterwards your own. In the Premium tariff we bear salvage costs up to 2.5 million euros, and wreck removal is included.
We charge no surcharge for superstructures: flybridge, hardtop and radar arch mean no increased risk for us, unlike with some competitors. What matters instead is the agreed value including the refit status, because with yachts in this price range there is often a multiple between current market value and replacement value. Tenders and water sports equipment can be included, they are not automatically covered.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Does the flybridge on my Azimut cost a surcharge?
No. From the trawler to the flybridge the same tariff applies; a flying bridge means no increased risk for us.
How high should the salvage costs be covered?
On a yacht of this class, as high as possible. In the Premium tariff it is up to 2.5 million euros including wreck removal; a cap in the low five-figure range is ineffective at these values.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value. Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
