Inflatable canoes and small craft are almost always used without an engine, often on rivers and lakes. Liability cover is therefore the core of the insurance: even a muscle powered boat can damage someone else's boat or a jetty. Hull cover is worthwhile above all on higher value models and where the boat travels in a vehicle, since theft is the biggest risk there.

Frequent questions
Does an inflatable canoe without an engine need insurance?
It is usually not compulsory but often sensible. Liability cover pays for damage to other boats and installations, and that can happen without an engine, for example in a strong current or around a harbour.
Is the boat insured while being carried in a car?
Under hull cover that includes transport, yes. Without that inclusion the trip to the water is a gap, especially for theft from the vehicle or an accident on the way.
