Worth knowing
Allgäu; cover, cost and conditions
Four model ranges are recorded: the Kielschwerter 30 from 1970 to 2001, the Flunder from 1973 to 1979 as well as two motorsailers from the nineteen-seventies. Production therefore lies in the past. Boats of this age we insure in the Premium tariff without an age limit, with an agreed value instead of a fluctuating current value.
With a sailing boat the premium is measured by the sail area and not by an engine power, and to this are added the type of boat, value, year of construction and cruising range. A motorsailer is rated on both figures. The year of construction alone excludes no one: we insure regardless of year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners.
Over five decades such boats have mostly changed owner several times. Papers are missing, conversions are documented or they are not. For the application the current condition counts, and the third-party liability with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros forms the basis of every contract.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Can a boat from 1975 still be insured today?
Yes. Year of construction, place of purchase and previous owners play no part in acceptance. In the Premium tariff the age limit in the full hull cover does not apply, and indemnity is paid at the agreed value with no deduction for depreciation.
How are races in a club treated?
Club races are included from the Basis-Plus tariff upwards. Races with scoring status you state when concluding, so that they are expressly taken into account in the contract.

Series by Allgäu, build years and cover
Kielschwerter 30 is a sailing yacht from Allgäu, built from 1970 to 2001.
Flunder is a sailing boat from Allgäu, built from 1973 to 1979.
Motorsegler Baltic is a sailing yacht from Allgäu, built from 1970 to 1979.
Motorsegler 8,80 is a sailing yacht from Allgäu, built from 1970 to 1977.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
